feeling frisky

Etsy's blog The Storque teemed up with The Frisky to compile some sexy Halloween costumes from Etsy listings, and my tea for two cocktail hat made the cut for the pinnacle of sexy Halloween costumes: the french maid!

They also did a line up of selections for one of my personal favourites; the bad kitty! Meow! Maybe it's because I'm a leo, but I love the sexy kitty costume! Cliche, yes, but you really can't beat that look! The bad kitty that The Frisky created is pure classic 1950s pin-up! If I had an extra $60 just lying around, I would totally snap that body suit up! It's purrrrfect!

sudden death academic probation

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am eternally in love with Max Fischer. He's so badass and adorably misguided. How can you not love him? Or better yet, how could you not want to be him?

I've collected a few listings from Etsy* to create a more girl friendly version of Max Fischer... we'll call her Maxine Fischer.

This is the official Rushmore Academy school uniform.

This 1940s school uniform jacket is insanely perfect. She's got the dress listed in another listing if you want the whole experience!
Available from allencompanyinc

Simple wool herringbone skirt, with a little kick pleat in front and back. Perfect for running around and getting into trouble.
Available from penelopepupsvintage

Not one to shy away from a little sneaky rebellion, our Maxine ditches the uniform shirt in favor of this little red pin tucked number.
Available from HighHatVintage

It's a classic.
Available from regansbrain

Signature tortoise shell glasses are a must.
Available from BlueRoseRetro

Red suede sneakers in lieu of a beret.
Available from learntoread

Choir pins to replace the punctuality and perfect attendance awards.
Available from prettysaro

Because we're such good friends.
Available from thingsrevisited

Because sometimes you need a little help figuring things out.
Available from craftydill

This is my favourite Max Fischer outfit. The green velvet suit just kills me! The ochre shirt and matching bow tie make me swoon, and top it off with that jaunty little beret and you have the recipe for love at first sight!

This hat is amazing! The photos in the listing are not the best, but trust me... this is THE hat for any Maxine Fischer wannabe.
Available from curiousgoods53

Max wears some pretty basic tortoise shell glasses, but our Maxine likes a little more flash. These glasses have a nice little gold detail to mirror her accessories.
Available from VintageDove

The yellow ascot tie blouse. Perfection.
Available from TennysonVintage

Instead of a two piece suit, our Maxine prefers a velvet dress with amazing pocket details!
Available from PaintedSoulDesign

Our Maxine is a little bit more refined than Max. She prefers not to wear sneakers with her formal wear. These shoes are perfect!
Available from posiesforlulu

How about a little high school charm bracelet to show some school spirit!
Available from Aquanetta

*ps- I want you to know that posting these listings gives me a big old knot in my throat, because I want to buy them all!!! I'm not good at sharing.

classic dames

I was up late last night browsing the internets and I came across the future classics fall/winter line. I'm loving the military WWII thing that they have going on for fall. Drab tweeds and big structured shoulders. Lots of buttons and brass hardware. Draped silk dresses that invoke an image of a billowing parachute. All masculine and feminine all at the same time. Even the hair is a ladies' version of a pompadour.

The button detail on these pants is killing me! So many buttons!

As much as I am loving this collection, I am wary of the fact that there is A LOT of WWII stuff going on in pop culture recently. I find it worrisome. Should I be gearing up for WWIII?

always and for never

So with the last post out of the way, let's get on with the task at hand. I'm feeling pretty rusty, so I'm going to kick things off with a meme... one that I was almost tagged by Anabela to do. Almost. The always & nevers meme that was created by Lauren of Dear Golden Vintage.

I think that this is a very difficult meme to start with! I'm not really sure that I have too many "always's" and "never say never", right? I was once described as being "consistently inconsistent", so I guess I'll have to generalize a bit. Maybe expand on some unspoken rules? Let's see what happens!

always x five:

Everyone seems to be starting with hair for this section. I'm not too precious about my hair. I hack at it constantly. I've had every hair colour imaginable (including blue). It's been curly and straight. It's been as long as mid-back and as short as one inch. I've been keeping it pretty natural for a while and just growing it out. I am completely sick of it! Don't be surprised if the next time you see me, I'm a blond!

1. SO, that said, let's talk other hair. Eyebrow hair! I always have skinny, drawn on eyebrows! 1920s flapper style. It started back in highschool most likely after watching some mobster movie... Mobsters maybe? hahaha

2. Vintage. Obviously. I've been a huge fan of anachronistic dressing since dress-up time in grandma's closet! I love old clothes, but I'm not a purist. I could never just stick to one era of dressing. I love playing with fashion!

3. Chuck Taylor + April 4ever! Me and Chuck have been together since 1987! I currently have four pairs in my closet and only one pair has not been worn right through the sole... and that's just because they're two months old. Give them time. They will be destroyed!

4. Giant sunglasses that cover half my face! I have a huge collection of sunglasses, but I really only ever wear one pair. I got them when I was 16 and I wear them almost every day.

5. Cardigans. I love 'em! I have many. I even have one that's been in rotation since 1993! My mum HATES it!

nevers x five

There's not too much out there that I just will never do. There's a time and a place for everything, but there are a few things that I just cannot embrace...

1. Sweatshirts, hoodies, yoga pants, and sweatpants. Basically anything that you would wear to work out. I am NOT sporty. I think that these items are pajamas. Socially acceptable pajamas: Just add Uggs. Damn you, society and your lacksidasical dress codes! I don't want to look at your muffin tops!

2. Midriff bearing tops! Yuck! Nobody wants to see my muffin tops! My white, fleshy, muffin tops...

3. Chaps. No sir, I don't like them.

4. Stiletto heels. I would also need a wheelchair for this fashion item. I can't stand in those things.

5. Flip flops. At the other end of the footwear spectrum, I can't do these either... they hurt my tender tootsies just thinking about them!

what time is it?

Clearly, it's time to get a new watch.

I haven't worn a watch for years because I tend to be pretty hands-on and eventually the face becomes so scratched that it's practically frosted and therefore I can't read the time! I came across these watches by Nixon today and now I kinda want one. It has that kind of candy watch construction that makes telling time delicious!

oh what a tangled web we weave

All right, so technically, we're not talking webs or weaves here, but we are talking tapestry freaking granny boots!!! Even the heel is tapestry, people! These are special!

These glorious boots were featured in The Storque's "news from the blogosphere" article today. The only reason I'm telling you about them is because they are too big for my teensy tiny feet. My loss is your gain! Someone buy these beauties right NOWat planet claire vintage on Etsy!

hallelujah

I just wanted to thank everyone for sending those positive vibes my way. I still get all vechlempt when I think about grandma, who's husband (and best friend) of nearly 70 years is no longer here to dance or joke around with, but I know that she's got the support of her nine children and their families... so she'll be okay. And I'm feeling much better today! I still have a bit of a fever... but I don't feel like the room is spinning anymore, and instead of feeling like there's a semi truck parked on top of me; I just feel like I've been in a hit and run! Hooray! The worst is over. It's only uphill from here!

Which leads us to what we all expect from my blog (enough of this emotion already): internets shopping to make us forget our woes! Otherwise known as, retail therapy!

This is what I bought:

It's "The Black Curtain Brooch" from Etsy seller ATHD. I love just about everything in their shop, but this was the only thing I could afford. Lucky for me it is so perfect and gorgeous! A perfect mix of modern and antiquity. And it's black and brass... we all know I loves me some black and brass!

Here's a couple of their other covetable pieces:

If I were a rockstar and had the cash, I would totally risk the splinters and possible tetanus that the 310 to Yuma (did anyone see the remake of this movie with Russel Crowe and Christian Bale? if you didn't: avoid it) necklace might inflict. It's so amazing! If there's one thing I love as much as black and brass; it's old wood and patina!

And then there's THIS! Which looks like the entire contents of grandma's jewelry box arranged ever so precisely in one piece! Just beautiful!

And THIS! Oh my! Enamel loveliness!

This last piece is my favourite (I think). It's hard to choose a favourite from all this gorgeousness, but I do love enamel chain and that maze of brass connector rings is just so gorgeous!

torture

I don't know why I find it necessary to torture myself by searching for shoes in my size in Etsy vintage every time I am certifiably, absolutely, positively, flat B.R.O.K.E. But I do. I do find it necessary. I must be some sort of footwear masochist or something. I'm sure the pervs over on Flickr would have a field day with that admission... but I digress.

These are the fruits of my labor, with links!

Good god! These are perfect! SO GORGEOUS! They're listed as a 6.5 or 7 and they're vinyl (which is the only reason I'm not breaking out the credit; my feet don't like man made fibers) at halfmagic! Somebody buy them so I can live vicariously through you!

Okay. Red and white spectators? Could these be any better? They're absolutely adorable... and a half size too big for me. Oh yeah, they're only TEN BUCKS! at TheVintageShack! Now you HAVE to get them!

More cute spectators! This time in real leather! And a spiffy classic colour combo to boot! Again, they're a size 7 which is too big for me, so I can't get them. These are also really cheap, at dahlilafound, so somebody snatch these up quick!

These little t-straps are so adorable! They're almost identical to a pair my mum had in the 70's that I used to play dress-up in! These look to be in pristine condition and even come with the original box! From metroretrovintage.

Okay. I freaking LOVE glitter shoes! I used to have a pair of glitter shoes that my grandma gave me and my sister for dress-up, and they were my ultimate favorite shoes ever! About a month ago, I found a pair of gold glitter shoes in my size on Etsy and I kept putting them in, and taking them out of my shopping cart. I thought I bought them... but in the end I hadn't, and now they're gone forever! Tragic! These silver glitter shoes are identical to the gold ones I missed out on, but not my size! But if you're a size 6.5 you can get them at MetroVintage for a steal of a deal!

I feel better now that I've shared my burden with all of you! Thanks kids!

are you serious?

Fake leather crop pants with a matching fake leather vest all with chicken hackle trim?! Can this be? Are you serious?

Oh. You are serious...

I want that

Does anyone know what size "unwearable" is...

I know these are "museum" pieces that are not meant to be worn, but, aaaaarggh! This ensemble is killing me! KILLING ME! Is it wrong to waste money on something so frivolous? I would wear them. And quite possibly the dress would rot right off of me! And who knows if I could fit my feet into the mysterious "unwearable" size.

Should I try?

when I'm sixty four

I just found this great blog called advanced style today. It's like facehunter or the sartorialist for the over sixty crowd! There's a couple of ladies that I see on a regular basis that should definitely be applauded for their "senior style" and would feel right at home on the pages of a fashion mag... er, um, blog. I've always admired the really fashionable elderly ladies with their perfect coifs and powdery fresh skin matched with pearls and rhinestones and furs! Oh my! Even my own grandmother with her fearless pairings of hand knit panda sweaters and a sparkling tam complete with rhinestone brooch and clashing tights is an inspiration! Oh grandma, I love you and your wacky style!

tell me about your mother

Sometimes an idea so brilliant, so clever, so adorable comes along and you say to yourself "Damn! I wish I thought of this!"

Such a thing happened yesterday when I stumbled upon softspoken's Freudian slips! Nothing is better than a good old fashioned visual pun, and softspoken has hit the jackpot with this one!

The one pictured above was my favourite, and unfortunately it sold before I had a chance to visit her etsy shop. Good news! There's one more up for grabs right now!

I hope she makes more... hint, hint!

cat in the hat

er, um... I mean... the cat is the hat?

I'm not exactly sure what is on this lady's head... it looks to be a pomeranian or some other small pet, but I'm kinda really digging it. I could never do that to my pet though.

folie a deux

Ummmmm, hello gorgeous!
Rich-in-craft is making these absolutely to die for meggagoth handbags with antler handles! Have you seen these? They are amazing, but probably cost more than my life is worth! I want one in every colour so bad I can taste blood in my mouth!

ps-I took the photos from here

gold lion vs brass knuckles

OMG! Why choose one or the other when you can have both? How badly do I want this ring?!!! Well kiddies, let me tell you, it's A LOT!

Featured etsy seller Fleathers has some of the best mutated animal rings I have ever seen. Actually, come to think of it, I haven't ever really seen any other rings of this nature...

There's also these cute bunny love rings that are screaming my name!

Who wants to buy me one? I'll take either!
